Socio-legal Dimension of Eastern Europe Unification with European Union

by Christian Boulanger last modified 2007-03-20 12:39

The aim of this session is to debate public sphere functioning, changes of legal consciousness and legal culture of public servants and general public in East Central Europe, in result of membership in the European Union.

The following questions will be debated:

  1. whether the process of integration with EU leads to a "normative shift" in the new members public sphere functioning, its growing transparency, openess and subordination of the decision-making to meritocratic criteria and public interest;
  2. whether it results in the change of popular legal consciousness, the growing awarness of law and legal procedures;
  3. whether it leads to the change of public servants legal cultures, their greater responsibility and autonomy in the decision-making processes;
  4. what are the most important impediments in the unification of new members with the European Union
